Favicon checker MCP server
Let your AI coding agent inspect the favicon of any website. This free Model Context Protocol (MCP) server wraps the favicon checker as a tool called check_favicon.
Why
A coding agent can wire a favicon into your project, but it cannot see what a visitor sees. With this tool it can fetch your deployed page, read what is declared, verify that each file exists and has the right size and type, and fix what is missing. See coding agents know where a favicon goes.
Install
The server is a single PHP script, tools/mcp-server.php, using the stdio transport. It needs PHP 8.1+ with cURL, and no other dependency. Add it to your MCP client configuration (Cursor, Claude Desktop, VS Code...):
{
"mcpServers": {
"easyfaviconchecker": {
"command": "php",
"args": ["/path/to/easyfavicongenerator/tools/mcp-server.php"]
}
}
}Tool
check_faviconwith one argument,url: returns the summary, the list of checks (with level, section, title and message), the icons found and the web manifest.
Try it
echo '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"tools/call","params":{"name":"check_favicon","arguments":{"url":"https://example.com"}}}' | php tools/mcp-server.phpThe server applies the same protections as the web API: public addresses only, no credentials, redirect validation, size and time limits. If you prefer HTTP, call the checker API directly.
